Emotions Stuck In The Left And Right Side Of The Body

When learning energy healing, one soon learns that for most people, the right side of us is the male side and the left side is the female side. So what does it all mean and how does it relate to our emotional state?
Of course, there are exceptions. There is no reason why someone should not be the other way around. However, for most people it goes something like the following.
The right side represents either a male in our life or the Male side of us. For example, in terms of people in our life, it could be a father, brother, male teacher, colleague, partner, ex-partner, or someone like that. In terms of the male side of us, it is the provider, the earner, the protector, the strong one. I call that "the slayer of the dragon" side of us.
The left side represents either a female in our life or the Female side of us. So, in terms of people in our life, it could be a mother, sister, female teacher, colleague, partner, ex-partner, or any female that had or has a negative impact on our life. In terms of the female side of us, this is the pleaser, the carer, the nurturer. I usually call that side "the carer" or "the nurturer".
Let me give an example from a Reiki healing I have had. For days before that healing, my left leg was very stiff due to overzealousness in the gym. However, I had done everything I should for the muscle tightness to release, but it was still very tight and painful. I had resorted to taking anti-inflammatories so I could sleep at night. That for me is extreme. And my whole right side was getting stiffer, my back, my shoulder, and even all the way in my right arm, every muscle felt very tight. During the healing, at some point, everything suddenly started to shift. My body realigned, and the left side of me was getting as strong as the right side, which felt much more relaxed. Both sides felt both strong and relaxed at the end of the healing. As that happened, I got an epiphany, and Aha Moment, that I had been so wrapped up in unexpectedly provide for my family and myself in two countries, that I completely focussed on bringing the money in and forgot to nurture my family in the process. This created an imbalance in me on every level, including physical. That healing not only gave me physical, but a great emotional relief and energy shifts. I felt amazing afterwards.
So, if you consistently feel there is something wrong with one side of you, maybe it is worth investigating the male-female duality in us, and see if there is an imbalance there. Going to a Reiki or any good energy healer can help you to redress the balance. Or maybe simply by recognizing what was wrong and figuring it out for yourself, just that can help you feel more balanced.
Wishing you peace and balance always.

Mustard - A Spiritual and Historical Overview

Mustard is one of the oldest spices used by humans. According to an allegorical story by Gautama Buddha (c. 563-480 BC), the Buddha asked a grieving mother who lost her only son to bring a handful of mustard seeds from a family that has never lost a child, husband, parent, or friend. When the mother was unable to find such a family, she realized that death is common to all and thus she should not be selfish in her grief.
In the Quran too, God states that the scales of justice on the Day of Judgment will measure even a mustard seed's amount, because God is the most efficient reckoner. Jewish texts compare the knowable universe to the size of a seed. An intimate connection between the small mustard seed and faith occurs in the Bible, Quranic Hadiths, and Hindu literature.
Brassica seeds have been discovered in tombs of Pharaohs. They were thought to bring good luck. With the expansion of the Roman Empire, seeds traveled to Gaul, Spain, and England. King Charlemagne introduced them in the gardens surrounding the monasteries of Paris, establishing the now famous industry in France. A 1634 law granted exclusive mustard-production rights to Dijon, now famous for its mustard. In German folklore, brides sewed mustard seeds into their dresses to bring them strength in their new home, perhaps because women were treated as subordinate to men and mustard brought good luck. In northern Europe, mustard seed was said to keep evil spirits away.
Brassica seed is often used in herbal medicine. Hippocrates used mustard in many medicines and poultices. Pythagoras mentions mustard as a remedy for scorpion stings. Mustard was said to increase blood circulation. Mustard plaster helped increase blood flow to inflamed areas and thus hastened healing. By drawing the blood to the skin's surface, mustard relieves headache, neuralgia, and spasms. Brassica was thought to be an aphrodisiac in Europe and China.
This condiments are not a frequently allergenic food, however when taken in sufficiently large doses, it warms the body. Not only taste, mustard was believed to also have significant health benefits. Mustard was used to relieve toothache, muscle cramps, clogged sinuses, and indigestion. French monks used mustard to treat wounds. A rubefacient poultice provided relief of rheumatic pain. Hot water poured on bruised seeds makes a stimulating bath that is good for achy feet, colds, and headaches. Mustard has been used to treat alopecia, epilepsy, snakebite, and toothache. The seed is also used internally as a digestive, diuretic, emetic, and tonic. Mustard oil is said to stimulate hair growth, and it is a popular hair oil in rural India. However, direct application of the oil has been known to cause severe irritation.
There are three types of mustard popular in human food. The mildest is white mustard (Brassica alba), yellow mustard (Brassica juncea) and black mustard (Brassica nigra). Scientific studies aimed to validate traditional medicinal use have been largely conducted on Brassica nigra.

Reiki Master Limitations Due To Ego, Fear, Or Financial Gain

Sometimes Reiki Healers go to a healing share group and find there are silly rules to stick to. In the bad old days in the UK, there used to be a rule at many a Reiki share that only healers from a specific variation of Reiki were allowed to join. I ear that in Cape Town, some Masters giving share groups are even more exclusive. For example, anything to do with aura reading is forbidden, because that is supposed to be part of a kind of Reiki that has a non-disclosure agreement. I was taught it in the Reiki and Seichem system in London, where aura reading (scanning) was just part of what we were all taught to do. And aura reading is not even specific to Reiki. Aura reading is used for EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) as well, in order to get to the root causes in a gentle way, rather than ask searching but uncomfortable questions that could distress the client unnecessarily. In fact, reading or scanning the aura is a great technique to use with any energy healing modality.
So why do some Masters who facilitate these shares get touchy about people doing things that are in fact totally innocent and very helpful? Well, in my experience, some Reiki teachers have yet to complete their healing journey. It is as simple as that. The first Reiki Principle is "Just for today, let go of worry", and the second is "just for today, let go of anger". Every serious healer in this beautiful modality has to say these Principles every day. If we try to live by them, we let go of ego, fear, and the need to control.
If you have attended such a limiting share group, do not think the facilitator is above you. You are equals. I found that out when a Reiki Master Teacher was horrible to me one day. We have since made up, I approached her and said I forgive her and thanked her for what she taught me. They are all human, and if they do not always self-heal, they can get big-headed and let ego and fear dictate their feelings and actions. A Reiki Master is one who has truly submitted and allowed Reiki to Master them. A true Master is humble. Let limiting facilitators carry on with their healing journey. If they are too ego-centred, maybe it is time you feel gratitude for everything they have taught you and surround yourself by more positive people.
A true facilitator is never afraid their attendees will steal their method, their ideas, or their turf. There is an abundance of clients, and any good facilitator simply helps others develop and grow. It is all about expansion and not about limitation.

The Reiki Council And Registration Pros and Cons

As someone who has sat on the then Reiki Regulatory Working Group in the UK, now known as the Reiki Council, I am delighted to see how seriously Reiki is being taken in the UK now. Of course, there are many that do not realise the benefits. However, at the end of the day, it is about choice. A Reiki Healer can choose to be officially recognised or choose not to. It is always good to have choices.
The process took about 12 years in total. And it was worth it. After all the work so many dedicated people and associations have put in to develop these professional standards for Reiki, and to help make the Reiki Register happen, There is now movement forwards.
First of all, it is now easier, though not easy, for Reiki to have a place in the NHS and private medical insurance schemes. The NHS is now looking at ways to give a holistic approach to medicine, one that involves Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM).
Secondly, about half-way through the process, not even when it was finished, I as a Reiki Practitioner started to get more enquiries and more clients for Reiki sessions. I am sure that others who were also professional and ran their private practice as a proper business also saw this increase in clients and benefited from it. More importantly, the clients benefited from it. These are clients who would not see any un-approved practitioner or try something not tried, tested, and approved. And why should they? It is good to approach any new modality with some healthy scepticism. After all, the world abounds with charlatans and snake-oil salespeople.
Some Reiki Practitioners personally do not feel that this will come to much. They see the whole thing as yet another hoop they are forced to jump through. They may also argue that there are too many biases in the NHS and private medical establishments towards medication, slash, burn, and inject. However, CAM is being integrated into the Western Medicine model, and although the uptake is slow, it is happening.
However, let us look at Reiki registration from a different angle. Not that of depending on an employer, but that of running a self-employed Reiki practice. In any business, run properly, ethically, and honestly, there is paperwork, there are professional fees, and there are professional standards. My own feeling is that anyone not benefiting as a practitioner simply needs to study more business and marketing courses. Then they can apply their knowledge and potentially have many happy clients that they regularly serve with pride and joy.
Let us not depend on our Medical friends to give us jobs. Let us spread healing and help clients now for the Highest Good. And when the NHS offers you a job, then you can have a choice whether to take it or to keep your private practice open. To re-iterate, it is always good to have choices.

Advice For The New Reiki Healer - Distractions

You may well wonder how effective the Reiki can be with distractions around. There may be a television in the background, you may have a teenage child or a share a home with someone who plays loud music, you may have a young baby who wakes up crying for attention in the middle of your self-healing, an elderly parent who suddenly needs to be taken to the toilet, children to listen out or look out for, or any number of things.
For example, your friend or partner may have asked for a session, and your or your friend's children were still around the house. You did the healing as you would normally. At the same time, you may have obviously been listening out just to check the kids are okay. In the case of your mind being continually distracted, you may well wonder if the session is working and if the energy is flowing properly.
This is a very common question. So do not worry, you are not alone.
Remember in your training what you learned about the flow of energy. Reiki goes wherever it is most needed for the highest good. And remember that when you are giving Reiki, you are the vessel, the channel, through which Reiki flows. As you give any healing, you also receive a healing. If you find the distractions of the children annoying or worry about what they may be up to (getting themselves in danger, etc), then the Reiki will go to you and your feelings and the children situation rather than your healee. Your healee, be it a friend, partner, yourself, or whoever, may also feel unable to let go and surrender to the Reiki if there is a lot of noise or there are numerous distractions around during the session.
If need be, you can have a shorter session, preferably at a time of minimum distraction. You can also play relaxing music that can distract the person receiving the healing from the noise and help you focus on something calming as well as focusing on things that need your attention. This multi-tasking can work for many people, but if not for you, then simply choose a time where your attention is not divided, and you can sink comfortably into the flow of energy.
Lastly, remember that practice is the key. The more you do it, the more the Reiki flows regardless of distractions. Enjoy your learning and your healing.
